Candlemas Day

If Candlemas day be dry and fair
The half o' winters to come and mair
If Candlemas day be wet and foul
The half o' winter's gane at Yule.

(40 days after Christmas)

Time to take decorations down if you haven't done so already

In other words half of winter is gone no matter which way you look at it..... am I right. I don't really understand those old fashioned words... :)  Sandra

The way I understand it...if it's cloudy and dreary, half the winter was gone at Christmas; but if it's sunny half the winter is gone today, which would mean six more weeks of winter.
