Snowstorm

Edward

Talk of 12 inches

Talk of thunder snow

Talk of sleet and freezing rain

I hope everyone stays warm and safe.

My boy, my book

He is fighting good versus evil.  He is Luke, the bad guy is Darth Sidious. He makes the sounds with his mouth.  He knows them all.  You can tell by his eyes that he's in a land far, far away.  Taught to him by his Daddy who was also a Star Wars nut.  The only thing he likes to do more is read and play outside.

I finished shoveling this morning, just what the plow left and it wasn't very much this time.  I sure don't look forward to more snow but I prefer it to the freezing rain they say we might get or the thundersnow.  The snow is melting, it's actually pretty warm out, I think around 32 or so degrees.

I am reading a book about vintage clothing called Alligators, Old Mink and New Money.  It's fun to read.  The author even puts links to Internet sites.  It says for fashion lovers, flea market fanatics and thrift store junkies, this book is the perfect find...and it is.  A couple links...

Snow storm pictures...expecting more tonight

It was above freezing so it was fun in the snow until we got cold.  We shoveled, made angels, fed the critters and went sledding.  Snow near the end of winter is a little easier to tolerate.

Skylark

Skylark, have you anything to say to me?
Can you tell me where my love may be?
Is there a meadow in the mist
where someone's waiting to be kissed?

Skylark, have you seen a valley green with spring
where my heart can go a journeying
over the shadows and the rain
to a blossom covered lane?

And in your lonely flight have you heard the music?
In the night, wonderful music.
Faint as a will-o'-the-wisp, crazy as a loon,
sad as a gypsy serenading the moon.

Oh, skylark, I don't know
if you can find these things,
but my heart, is riding on your wings.
So if you see them anywhere
won't you lead me there?

Playing in the snow

Owen came again yesterday and stayed overnight.  I enjoy his company and it also gets me outside more than I normally would.  It's also nice to take him home.  It's great to be a grandparent.

41 degrees...not that I'm counting

Saw kids walking home from school with their jackets off.

I opened the moon roof on my car when I went to pick up Owen.

Had a nice walk.

Time to change my blog back to green...oh wait...blizzard predicted for Saturday, maybe I'll wait a bit.

You should see the sunset...

it's that beautiful red sky as the sun is setting so you know tomorrow is going to be a glorious day....predicted to go above freezing, wow!  Owen was here overnight and we had fun, played outside making giant bubbles and running around.  His Mom came and picked him up before noon because they had a dinner date with the other family so we didn't get to do our wooden project, next time we will.  A few pictures I took yesterday when Jenny came to pick up Hali.  My sister Angel got me some spinning wool at auction and I'm anxious to get it.  She sent a picture of it and it looks great.

Asleep...

Hali has been asleep since she got here.  I held her for a while hoping she would wake up but no luck.  So much for the plans to dress her up cute and take lots of pictures playing with the toys.

Still sunny today and still just a light layer of snow cover.  It's cold but not unbearable like it was.  Just took a short walk today.

I finally found the DVD player I bought for myself for Christmas for twenty nine dollars.  It was in the closet behind my camcorder which I don't use.  I got it working and watch part of a movie.  Now if I could just get the camera working that I bought last summer I'd be happy.

Still in a warming trend, got to 21

I drove to the Wildlife Sanctuary today and went for a walk in the back forty.  The geese and ducks came flying in to join me (note the shadows).  We all walked quietly together for about an hour and then I went back to my car they all joined me in the parking lot.  When it came time for me to drive out they didn't part, so I ended up backing out.  The walk was an awesome experience with the critters.

I also stopped at the treasure store to look around and I got a few things.  I was taking a picture of them when Anakin jumped up and posed for the camera, so here she is.

Baby Hali Anne is coming to sleep over, I think, tomorrow so I also stopped and got diapers and formula...and a couple toys.  One is a splashing pond and I hope to get a picture of her playing with it.

If you like vintage clothing or are curious about it, pick up the book Alligators, Old Mink & New Money by Alison and Melissa Houtte.  It is fun, light reading.

St. Valentine's Day

Winter is beginning to wane.  I was out today filling the bird bath...ran out quick without a jacket.  Although the air was very cold, the sun felt warm on my back.  I guess I'll take any little glimmer of hope that Spring is coming.

Not my best day...

Cold, below 0....I hate winter!!!!

I like this journal even less.

(add on)  I made this pom pom scarf.  I was watching DIY and they were making them so I decided to make one too.  I have so much yarn.  It gave me something to do on this cold day.  Here's the picture.  It's just pom poms strung together with real soft yarn.  Right now it's keeping my neck nice and warm LOL.

Car still not running.  We're in a 'warming' trend now as the high today will be 11 but back down below 0 again tonight.  The Mourning Doves sure are a hardy group, as are the squirrels.  Staying in, have a pattern for a new scarf to make and lots of reading to do as well as sort out project materials.  I think I'd sleep all day if it wouldn't be for the cats, so it's a good thing I have cats.  The feeders are getting empty so will fill them again and maybe do the washing.  No heat in the basement and it's so cold down there but am running out of sheets and clothes.  It seems like I can feel the wind and cold coming through the walls.  Quiet here without Owen around.  Found this web site and thought it was kind of nice for a grocery savings.  http://MyGroceryDeals.com

Brrrrrrrr

There are probably more than one hundred Mourning Doves in the yard these last few unbearably cold days.  The squirrels are still scampering about and there are a couple sparrows and finches, but the Cardinals haven't been around for several days.  It's sunny again but again below zero.  Today they closed the city schools because of the cold temperatures and the 30 below wind chill factor.  No relief in site as they said the cold will continue throughout the week, but maybe a high of 7 by Friday.  My car hasn't started for a few days now and I'm going to wait to get it jump started until this cold spell is over...hopefully by next weekend.  I don't have any appointments this week except for WW on Tuesday but I can skip that without a problem.  Just so this cold doesn't make me gain any of the 25 pounds back that I lost.  Now that I bake my own bread I won't run out of that and I have powdered milk for my cereal when I run out of the fresh stuff.  I always have more than enough cat food for emergencies.  I have the newspaper delivered and the mailman will take any mail that I need to send.  I even have a big supply of bottled water. The only bother is I sometimes have a little problem with the garage door closing when I put in the food for Ann Frank. Her heater is working fine though.  I hate winter!!

Keyboard Craft

Ripped apart a couple old non-working keyboards to see what I could make with them.

I made some jewelry and signs, examples of a couple of them are pictured.

Just needing to get through winter LOL.
